The Canon IXUS 80IS compact digital camera delivers equally, both in terms of style and in performance.
|Pros:||Speedy performance, optical viewfinder, low shutter lag.|
|Cons:||Minor issues with image noise and barreling.|
Style and Substance
Canon's Digital IXUS range is renowned for combining quality image results with stylish camera design. The IXUS 80IS remains loyal to this idiom by packing an 8MP sensor, a 3x optical zoom and a 2.5in LCD screen into a stylish, rounded aluminum casing that's available in four subtly metallic colours – Classic Silver, Candy Pink, Chocolate, and Caramel.
Aesthetically, the IXUS 80IS looks and feels solid – its pure aluminium body sees to that – and the viewfinder will please some of the more diehard photography fans too.
It's not just the exterior that impresses either, and the IXUS 80IS boasts some impressive features too. For example, Canon has enhanced its Face Detection technology with Face Detection White Balance – a function that prioritises the colour temperature of the detected face over the background colours, setting the optimum white balance for natural skin tones.
The layout of the controls is easy to follow, aiding functionality along with its easily navigable menu. Image quality is very good, with sharpness maintained in difficult shooting conditions and colours beautifully rendered.
A benchmark in stylish compacts that impresses in every area of its specification.
