Tamrac’s Adventure 9 is a new rival for Lowepro’s popular Compu Daypack, which provides three distinct storage areas: a section for camera and lenses, a laptop section, and a general-purpose space.

The Adventure 9 is about 20% bigger than the Lowepro, but the camera section, which loads from the front but can be accessed from above, is much bigger.

The Nikon D200 with a 70-300mm VR lens comfortably fitted down the central channel, with room for four lenses on either side.

Extra pockets in the lid, and a small pull-out bag in the top section offer room for cards, cables and nick-nacks. Two net pockets on the sides of the bag are ideal for drinks or maps, while the laptop space is accessed from the side.

The general section is smaller than the Lowepro’s and has none of the latter’s internal pockets and zip sections. We used the bag to take kit abroad (as carry-on), so the top was stuffed with power cables and travel adaptors which were all just jangling around in there.

Despite this, as a camera bag the Tamrac Adventure 9 is far superior to the Lowepro. It is well-made, generously padded and comfortable to carry.
