Review: Summer is the time of year when many people take their holidays and, thanks to an enduring appeal, landscapes will undoubtedly feature highly in many photographers’ holiday snaps. Written by Peter Eastway, three times winner of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography’s Landscape Photographer of the Year, it is the latest edition in Lonely Planet’s pocket size photographic series and follows Travel. With only a small section of the book dedicated to image manipulation, the emphasis is on using your camera to get the most from a landscape, and although not specifically aimed at digital cameras, the shooting advice is relevant to any photographer. Eastway breaks landscape photography down into different areas including lakes, reflections, twilight and aerial, dedicating two pages to each. As expected from a Lonely Planet book, inspiring photographs from around the world are used throughout. The small size of the tome does mean some areas lack depth, but the price is reasonable and there is enough well-presented information to ensure Landscape Photography is recommended.
