Iomega Mac Companion Hard Drive
Iomega’s Mac Companion hard drive has, as the name suggests, been designed with the Apple Mac in mind. That’s why the design and finish of the drive fits in with the current Apple line-up of computers – sit it next to a nice slick iMac and it’s a perfect match.
It’s also preformatted to HFS+, Apple’s native file system, so PC users who like the look of the drive will have to reformat it before data can be transferred to it.
The Mac Companion features two FireWire 800 connections, a USB 2.0 hub with two connections as well as a charging/syncing port for your Apple device, such as an iPhone.
The 2TB version that we tested (a 3TB version is also available) costs £190 – quite a bit for a drive with this capacity, though not all have the fast FireWire 800 connection.
If you must have the extra connections and want everything else on your desk to look as smart as your Mac, then the Mac Companion is worth a look, though there are more affordable alternatives out there.
