A stylish looking and well-built unit that prints, scans and copies. The SX200 also includes a built-in memory card reader which reads XD/SD/MS pro and CF cards, and a port for PictBridge-enabled cameras.

The printer uses four individual CMYK Durabrite pigment ink cartridges. Single inks are preferred as you only need to replace inks that are depleted; pigment inks also guarantee a longer print life.

The controls on the top are simple: power on, stop, index sheet, number of copies, paper size, black copy, and colour copy.

The copy facility using Epson Premium Glossy Photo paper was fast but produced disappointing results. However, using plain paper the results were excellent; the copy feature seems to be aimed at the business user who may just want to produce plain paper documents.

When the images were scanned and printed using Photoshop, the results were excellent.

Our test files printed up beautifully with rich vibrant colours throughout.

Verdict

I must confess to being surprised by just how well this printer performed using just four colours.
