Colour calibration is still a dark art for many photographers, although if Datacolor has its way this won’t remain the case for much longer. The manufacturer has long been a champion of easy and – perhaps most importantly to the consumer – affordable colour calibration solutions.

The latest of these solutions is its fourth-generation Spyder calibration device. The Spyder4 is available in Express, Pro and Elite packages, with functionality increasing as you head up the price range. The Spyder4 works in much the same way as previous incarnations of the device, with the user simply installing the supplied software and then resting a triangular calibration device upon the front of their monitor. The rest of the process is taken care of by the Spyder and, in a relatively short amount of time, you’ll have yourself a calibrated monitor.

The Spyder4 makes the whole calibration process effortless and the calibration aftercare and continued monitor accuracy is also taken care of, with regular reminders to calibrate over time. If you’re interested in getting the best out of your monitor there are few simpler or more effective solutions than the Datacolor Spyder4.
