Panasonic Lumix GM5 Review – Performance
As mentioned previously, the LCD screen featured on the GM5 is in the 16:9 aspect ratio. While this is perfect for capturing video, when it comes to still capture around 25% of the frame is left blank.
That being said, the LCD screen itself is well specified enough and presents a good image reproduction in most settings apart from particularly bright light.
There’s also the added benefit of the camera’s EVF when it comes to stills framing. It is worth pointing out however that the EVF isn’t particularly special, certainly when you consider it against some of the best on the market including those currently offered by Fujifilm in its recent X-series models.
Rapid AF
One area where Panasonic has long excelled is with its autofocusing capabilities, and it’s no different with the GM5. Panasonic in fact claims that the GM5 manages an AF speed of just 0.06 seconds – a claim backed up by CIPA testing.
In real world conditions the GM5 is certainly speedy, delivering accurate focus in a range of different shooting conditions and even in particularly low light.
The fact that the camera boasts a touchscreen rear LCD is also welcome as it allows for the focus point to be selected precisely, as well as the nice touch of being able to resize the focus point itself.
