Olympus E-PL7 Review – Image Quality

Exposure

The E-PL7 utilises a 324-zone multi-pattern metering system which, on the whole, delivers faithful exposures in a wide range of shooting conditions.

There’s also the camera’s spot metering which is linked to AF, and this is a welcome addition.

The sensor impresses when it comes to dynamic range, delivering some seriously good results at the lower end of the ISO range and maintaining it well as it increases.

Resolution

The 16MP sensor found in the E-PL7 resolves a respectable amount of detail, and at its lowest ISO setting it is particularly strong. Throughout the ISO range the level of detail is generally maintained, although that being said at the very highest setting the level of detail does fall down.

Image Noise

Noise is well controlled at the lowest ISO settings, with noise, and luminance noise in particular, only apparent from ISO 800. It remains well controlled up to ISO 3200, but beyond this settings it’s probably best that you utilise the sparingly.
