Olympus mju 740 Review
The Olympus mju 740 (also known as the Olympus Stylus 740 in the US) takes a slight diversion from that of the camera norm. The mju legacy continues with the 740’s 5x optical zoom lens and weatherproof metallic body. Stretching to a respectable 180mm, the lens is coupled with ISO-based image stabilisation, while the ISO range up to 1600 provides good usability in most lighting conditions.
Though its weatherproof abilities seem to be the camera’s main shouting point, the mode dial only wants to turn if operated with the driest of hands and makes for a slight delay in operation. Nevertheless, convenience is provided in the form of 23 scene modes and 13 Guide modes.
Image quality, it has to be said, doesn’t perform as expected. Exposures are generally sound, though sometimes a little overexposed, and contain a good amount of detail, but corner-sharpness, noise and green fringing mar a few too many images.
Verdict
Let down by second-rate image quality
