Ricoh has announced the release of a new Caplio R5 digital camera featuring a 7.1x optical wide zoom lens. Combining Ricoh’s own CCD-shift image stabilisation and a brand new image processing engine, the R5 promises improved functionality in low light conditions.
The new model succeeds the R4, improving upon its predecessor?s resolution and employing the new Smooth Imaging Engine II. This image processing engine promises reduced noise, a speedier performance and a higher sensitivity of ISO1600 at full resolution.
The 7x wide-angle zoom lens includes a vibration correction function in a body only 26mm thick. Ricoh?s own CCD shift method moves the CCD in the opposite direction to counterbalance camera shake. An Auto Resize function is also on hand to automatically change the image size when shooting at 7MP and zooming in excess of 200mm optical.
Shutter lag is reported as being as short as approx. 0.09 seconds while continuous shooting speed is improved to 2.8 frames per second. In addition, shots can be taken at best image quality until memory is full.
A 2.5-inch LCD, enhanced skew correction and macro shooting from 1cm is also promised, as is improved battery life. The R5 will be available later this month priced £279.99. Full details are available at www.ricoh.co.uk
