Product:

HP DeskJet F4272

Price as reviewed:

£40.00

The F4272, at £39.00 from PC World, is probably the cheapest printer I have ever reviewed. It is a neat unit that takes up very little desk space indeed.

The printer uses two cartridges, which have the print head built in, so in effect each time you change the inks you’re getting a new print head.

The F4272 top control panel includes an LED ink level indicator, scan, paper select, black & colour copy, resume, and cancel buttons.

Photographs using the copy (scan to print) feature look slightly posterised, but acceptable.

Printing our test scan using Photoshop produced a much better print, although a fraction on the light side.

Scanning quality was very good although there was a bit too much sharpening applied (this can’t be turned off or down at the scan stage).

Verdict

Using HP Premium Plus Photo Paper the printer produced some remarkable colours, but the printing time of six minutes and 25 seconds for an A4 print was far too slow.
