A definition of Rule of Thirds

A photographic rule of thumb. It states that composition is often most effective when key elements are placed in certain positions in the frame, at imaginary lines which separate the image into thirds over both the vertical and horizontal dimensions. For single subjects these positions are at the four points where the lines intersect, while for larger subjects this is across any one line.
