Review of onOne's Genuine Fractals 6 software
Photoshop performs a lot of tasks well ?straight out of the box?. However, there are some tasks that you wouldn?t necessarily think of Photoshop to perform best, and instead opt for a third-party specialist plug-in ? much the same way as you?d opt for a specialist stereo in your BMW rather than the own-brand.
onOne software specialises in providing said third-party plug-ins for Photoshop and the Adobe family, one of which being the image enlargement plug-in Genuine Fractals. Considered one of the industry standards for the task of image enlargement ? and with a price tag to match ? Genuine Fractals is now in its sixth edition as a plug-in in either Photoshop or Elements. Version 6 boasts a range of new features, such as batch processing, tiling printing support, gallery-wrap resizing and support for Lightroom 2, Aperture 2.1 and Photoshop CS4. These new features serve the purpose of simply adding to the software?s repertoire rather than revolutionising it, but as the saying goes ? if it ain?t broke?
The main issue is with the price ? you pay a premium for a professional product, and when you consider that a package including onOne?s whole plug-in suite is only marginally more expensive, it seems a better value option
