To be fair, the HP PSC 1510 is not part of the HP Photosmart range that is targeted at photographers and a photo cartridge is not supplied as standard. There are also no memory card slots featured, but you can print direct from your camera via PictBridge if your camera supports this. Photo print quality from the standard black and colour combo cartridges is adequate for non-critical purposes, though close examination reveals relatively more grain. Buying the optional photo ink cartridge will certainly improve photo print quality. More serious is plainly visible banding and poor detail in areas of heavy red colouration. At list print speed was good at just three and a half minutes for an A4 borderless photograph. On the scanner side results are over-sharpened by default, over-warm in tone and opinion is polarised by HP’s unorthodox control software that tries to second-guess your requirements; you’ll either love it or hate it.

Verdict

The HP psc 1510 is a clever design, but it lacks features, including direct printing from memory cards and an LCD display. A photo ink cartridge is also an extra cost option. Banding on prints and oversharpened scans were also noted.
