If you’re new to photography and have just bought a DSLR, then stepping away from the auto modes and experimenting with manual inputs can be quite daunting. Digital SLR Photography for Dummies is a great book to give you a clear overview of your DSLR and how it works and the core features it offers. There’s then guidance on understanding and mastering exposure, working with colour, focusing, flash, lenses, posing and compositional advice, as well as help on transferring and sharing your pictures.

There’s no heavy copy here, everything is laid out in easy-to-read chunks with helpful diagrams where necessary. Images could be better – though they show the difference between settings, stronger shots would have been welcome. There’s also a bundled interactive CD that includes integrated audio and video instruction and progress tracking features.

If you’re starting the road to photography and want a book that will teach you the basics well, then this would be a wise purchase.
