Samsung NV40 Review

Manufacturer:

Price as reviewed:

£120.00

The NV40 employs Samsung’s proprietary Smart Touch interface that’s operated via a number of highly sensitive buttons placed along the vertical and horizontal edges of the LCD screen. Once mastered, it makes using the camera quicker, although the sliders aren’t always the most precise – especially when accessing manual exposure functions. The 2.5in LCD screen is crisp, and the NV40 is the first in the NV range to possess a mechanical anti-shake system.

In addition to conventional shooting modes such as face detection, the NV40 also sports a dial mode button on the left of the camera that controls Picture Style – Normal, Classic, Calm, Cool, Soft, Retro, Vivid and Forest.

With regards to image quality, colours are fairly flat throughout the ISO 80-3200 range, while noise starts to appear at 200 increasing as the ISO does. There’s no noticeable fringing, though.

Verdict

Despite the touch interface and stylish looks, it does let itself down on image quality.
