Canon IXUS 85 IS Review

Classic Canon

The IXUS 85 IS nods to many of its siblings as far as its design is concerned. Elements of the IXUS 70 IS, 80 IS and 90 IS all work to produce a small and sightly compact, with a healthy array of features on the inside.

Feature Set

A 10MP sensor is joined by a 35-105mm equivalent lens, with DIGIC III processing driving the camera. Image stabilisation accompanies the lens, while a wide range of My Colours colour options headline the pre- and post-capture functionality available.

Image Quality

Being a well-weighted compact, handling is good, with the camera fitting neatly in the palm for comfortable carrying. With images, centre sharpness is very good, though edges and corners can become smudgy. Green and purple fringing also make themselves known, though flash exposures are balanced and noise is well controlled.

Verdict

The 85 IS looks good, handles well, and images are generally fine and balanced.
