World’s first ‘lifeproofed’ compact with AVCHD video recording

Panasonic has stepped firmly into the ‘lifeproof’ compact camera market with its new DMC-FT1. The 12.1MP shooter boasts an extensive specification, including a 28mm wide-angle Leica lens, 4.6x optical zoom, 2.7in LCD and Panasonic’s proprietary iA shooting mode.

What’s more is that the DMC-FT1 offers high-definition move capture in AVCHD Lite – a smaller version of AVCHD, thus allowing for longer movie capture.

Now all of that specification is impressive enough, but Panasonic has decided to go one step further and encase it all in a waterproof, shockproof and dustproof body. The model can head underwater to a depth of 3m, be dropped from a height of 1.5m and is totally dustproof – a spec which when combined with the AVCHD lite video mode provides a world first.

The DMC-FT1 will be available from March, in a choice of either sleek silver or cool blue, and for more info and  full specification head over to Panasonic.
