Olympus has introduced a 6MP camera with a bright f/2.8-3.7 10x optical 38-380mm zoom lens.
Billed as a camera ?for more ambitious photographers?, the SP-500UZ offers a full range of exposure modes including: Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, Program and Manual, as well as Automatic and 21 pre-set scene modes.
Alongside the 2.5in LCD screen is an electronic viewfinder composed of 201,000 pixels. Focusing options include iESP autofocus, manual, Spot and multi-spot AF, and the camera also adopts the Predictive auto-focus system first seen in the C-7070, which predicts the location of a subject.
The SP-500 Ultra Zoom enables JPEG and RAW shooting, 3cm Super Macro mode and a histogram. It can also record VGA movies with sound at a rate of 30fps and shoot up to three images at a rate of 2.5 shots a second.
Two optional converters can be used to further enhance creativity; the focal length can be extended to 646mm (1.7x) with the TCON-17 teleconverter, while the WCON-07 wide converter enables a 27mm focal length.
The SP-500UZ will be available in October for about £300. For more information visit www.olympus.co.uk or call 0800 072 0070.
