Kodak has launched its new high end P series with two superzoom models, the P880 and P850, which will be hitting the shops in September.

The P880 includes an 8MP sensor and ? targeting landscape photographers ? a wide angle Schneider Kreuznach Variogon 24-140mm lens that offers both manual focus and manual zoom rings. In a first for a Kodak Easyshare camera the P880 also offers RAW file support, and features an embedded Jpeg within each file. Enthusiasts will also appreciate the rare addition of a PC flash sync socket ? in addition to the more usual hotshoe.
With the inclusion of Manual, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Program modes alongside a selection of scene modes, Kodak seem to be aiming the P880 at photographers of all abilities.
Photographs can be previewed on the 2.5-inch LCD screen, which is composed of 237,000 pixels. The P880 has the facility to capture 30fps VGA movies and features a live-histogram and shutter speeds range from 16-1/4000 seconds.
The P850 is a 5MP compact with a 36-432mm lens (35mm equivalent) featuring an optical image stabiliser that is designed to reduce the effects of camera shake in low-light conditions; Kodak claim it will enable a 2-stop advantage over digital cameras that don’t feature the technology.
