Vitec, the parent company behind Manfrotto tripods and accessories, has bought the UK based lighting accessory company Lastolite, it was confirmed today.

Vitec already distributes Lastolite products in several countries, and the range is seen as a good fit with the Bassano, Italy-based manufacturer’s portfolio.

In addition the market leading Manfrotto brand of tripods, monopods and camera supports, Vitec also owns the premium tripod brand Gitzo, as well as Kata and National Geographic bags, and is also the name behind niche video-oriented brands LitePanels and Genus.

Lastolite produce reflectors and backgrounds as well as studio lighting and accessories – in short, the sorts of products that you might put on one of Manfrotto’s stands.
An official statement is due imminently, and we’ll publish more details of the buy-out as we get them.
