Winner to feature on cover of latest guide and will receive a free trip to either India, Russia, Morocco or Kenya

Lonely Planet is offering travellers the chance to have their work featured on the front cover of its guides for the first time in its history.

The renowned travel guide publisher has teamed up with photo sharing site Pikeo.com to run a competition in which the winner will both feature of the cover of four new editions of ?Encounter? guide, and will win a trip to India, Russia, Morocco or Kenya.

Twelve runners up will also receive prizes, as will a small section of commended entries. All the winners and runners up will also be showcased at a gallery exhibition in London.

The four new editions of the ?Encounter? guides cover London, Paris, Barcelona and Istanbul, and Lonely Planet has provided the following tips for what it is looking for in a winning image ?

o Images must be taken from a street perspective
o Use a reportage/documentary style
o Make the viewer feel they are actually there
o Have a central focal point
o Ensure composition is bold and colours are rich
o Avoid things looking staged by showing locals going about their everyday life
o Use iconic sights or architecture in an everyday context
o Always include people within your shots

The competition runs until 8th September, with judging to take place on the 10th September, and is located at Lonelyplanet.pikeo.com. Entries are being accepted from those located in the UK, France, Spain, USA and Canada.
