Any photography enthusiast missing the visual look and feel of film in the digital age will find solace in the latest software release from DxO Labs, which claims to ape the look of popular colour films such as Kodachrome, Tri-X and Velvia.

With DxO?s FilmPack, retro-loving snappers can now add the effect of each to their digital files, regardless of their original source. How so? DxO claims its colour renditions are based on the analysis and calibration of the surface sensitivity of each of the films, from which DxO Labs extracted the specific RGB curves. Although the magic effect can be applied to both JPEG and RAW, the company claims the results are more precise with RAW.
