HP is expanding its Photosmart range of digital cameras with the HP R817 and HP R818. Both 5MP models, they each sport a 5x optical zoom Pentax lens.
The cameras follow the ?wave style? first seen in the Photosmart R707. The R817 is available in silver, while the R818 has a dark grey metallic finish. As well as manual, shutter priority and aperture priority modes, both models include 15 scene modes, including the new ?theatre? mode.
HP Real Life technologies are incorporated into the cameras. In-camera Red-Eye removal rids images of the dreaded red-eye effect that can blight many portrait shots, HP Adaptive Lighting reveals detail in dark areas to produce a more balanced shot, and with In-camera Panorama stitching, users can join up and preview a panorama comprised of up to five images.
Other features include a video mode, from which individual stills can be printed, and a 5.1cm (2in) LCD screen.
Both cameras will hit the shops at the end of July. The HP 817 will retail at around £249, or £279 with the R-Series docking station; expect to pay around £299 for the HP 818 with the HP R-Series docking station.
HP has also announced a protective underwater case compatible with both cameras; the Photosmart Scuba/Underwater housing protects to a depth of 40m.
