Extensis has announced the latest version of its digital asset-management program that digital photographers can use to organise their picture collections.
A series of improvements have been made to the galleries including a Full Custom Sort, which enables users to re-order, drag or sort their pictures in the galleries, SmartGalleries and disc folders. The program automatically remembers the functionality for each user; additionally custom sorts can be applied to a shared catologue that multiple users can use.
Files from multiple galleries or searches can be sorted or edited within the new Scratchpad Galleries, creating a single gallery that can be printed or published, while for personal files the Public/Private galleries can only be viewed by the creator, as well as being locked.
New features to the database include Fast Cataloguing, which adds files to the catalogue that the user can work on immediately, even while other tasks are being performed in the background.
When a new watch folder is added to the catalogue, the frequency that it is scanned can be determined by the user and a cataloguing option preset can be attached to each folder.
Portfolio 8 can extract custom namespace XMP Metadata, enabling it to read information added within programs such as Adobe Photoshop.
NetPublish Galleries can be used to distribute a section of a catalogue through a dynamic website, while NetPublish Logging can be used for tracking activity and data on websites powered by Portfolio.
Portfolio 9 is compatible with Windows 2000, XP or higher, and Macintosh OS X 10.3 or higher. It is available in single-user format for $199.99 (£113), add a Portfolio NetPublish licence for $249.95 (£141) and upgrades from versions 6 and 7 cost $99.95 (£56.)
