Canon has added the IXUS 85 IS, 90 IS and 970 IS models to its compact range.

Canon has added three new models to its IXUS line.

The IXUS 85 IS features a 10MP sensor together with an optically-stabilised 3x zoom lens. Image processing is handled by a DIGIC III processor, while Face Detection, Motion Detection and Red-Eye Removal technologies add to its specifications.

The rear sports a 2.5in PureColour II LCD screen along with an optical viewfinder, while iSAPS and 19 shooting modes facilitate correct exposure.

The IXUS 90 IS features and almost identical specification but omits the viewfinder in place of a 3in LCD screen and sees a slightly different design.

A third model, the IXUS 970 IS, also features a 10MP sensor and an optically stabilised lens, but covers an focal range of 37-185mm in 35mm terms. On the rear, a 2.5in PureColour II LCD screen is joined by an optical viewfinder, with its curved design in keeping with previous three-figured IXUS releases.

The IXUS 90 IS and 970 IS models will be released later this month, retailing at £259 and £299 respectively, with the IXUS 85 IS following in April at £239. For more information visit www.canon.co.uk
