Canon has upgraded its popular DSLR, the EOS 20D, with the EOS 30D.
The EOS 30D retains the 8.2MP APS-C CMOS sensor of its predecessor. Composed of 230,000 pixels the LCD screen has increased in size to 2.5in and provides a 170° wide viewing angle.
In response to feedback from users of the 20D, the 30D includes 3.5% area spot metering and the shutter cycle lag durability has been extended to 100,000. Fast performance and optimum picture quality is promised from Canon's DIGIC II processor.
Canon has included a series of Picture Style presets. Previously seen in the EOS 5D and EOS ID Mark II N, each Picture Style preset is similar to a different film type – such a landscape and neutral - and when selected provides a colour response suitable to the setting.
The EOS 30D is compatible with Canon EF and EF-S lenses, along with EX-series Speedlights and accessories. For enhanced battery life, the BG-E2 battery grip is available. Utilising two Lithium-ion batteries, it enables 2200 frames to be captured, alongside the camera's standard 750 shot battery life.
Other features include: 100-3200 sensitivity range, simultaneous Jpeg and RAW processing and High Precision AF system.
The Canon EOS 30D costs £1099.99 for the body and £1179.99 in kit form with an EF-S 18-55mm lens.
