With the new Otus 1.4/55, Zeiss is introducing the new Otus
family of lenses – so named for the Latin name of the ‘scops’ owl (‘Otus
scops’)

The Otus 1.4/55 is designed to emulate the medium format
look. Zeiss is promising the highest contrast performance over the
entire image field, even at aperture f/1.4.

There’s a full breakdown of the lens over on Zeiss’s blog, where the promise is made that chromatic aberrations will be ‘almost completely absent’.

This, Zeiss says, will give the lens superior low-light performance, complementing similar advancements in modern DSLRs.
