We get a hands-on First Look at Fujifilm's latest Compact System Camera, the X-E1

Sitting just below the X-Pro 1 in Fujifilm’s X-series lineup is the X-E1. Inheriting the same 16MP CMOS sensor from its sibling, it features Fujifilm’s X mount and is both smaller and lighter than the X-Pro 1.

Spin the camera around and there’s a 2.36million pixel OLED electronic viewfinder offering a contrast ratio of 1:5000, in contrast to the optical/electronic hybrid viewfinder that’s found on the X-Pro 1. Fujifilm claims this latest model in the X-Series can focus within 0.1seconds when it’s connected with the new XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens and this optic also boasts a four-stop OIS system to counter the effects of image blur.

At the rear of the camera Fujifilm has included a 2.8in LCD with a resolution of 460,000 dots. There’s a standard sensitivity range of ISO 200-6400 and this can be extended down to ISO 100 and up to a maximum ISO 25,600 equivalent when required.

Elsewhere the camera can be set to shoot continuously at 6fps and the integral pop up flash has a guide number of 7 at ISO 200. As for the availability of the X-E1, it’s expected to arrive in early November.
