Nikon has launched a COOLPIX model with capability to go underwater and be dropped on a hard surface. The Nikon COOLPIX S30 can be submerged 3 meters and survive an impact from 0.8 meters, while taking images at 10MP with a 3x optical zoom.
HD movie can be recorded at 720p, and the S30 is powered by two AA batteries. Perhaps the most significant element of the COOLPIX S30 is the design, as the camera is designed for the family rather than the extreme sports enthusiast. With few controls on the body of the camera there isn't a confusing array of buttons for younger users, and those that are present are large and chunky.
The S30 is priced at £99 and available from the end of March, with more info at Nikon's website.
