Two 16MP compacts with 5x optical zooms, the Sony CyberShot WX70 and CyberShot WX50, announced

Two new compacts have been launched by Sony in the forms of the CyberShot WX70 and WX50. Both cameras offer the same 16MP sensor, but differ in terms of screen size, with the WX70 opting for a 3inch version and the WX50 only a 2.7inch.

Elsewhere the optical zoom is 5x, advancing to 10x once the in-camera Clear Image feature is engaged utilising processing rather than physical magnification. ISO peaks at 12800, which is impressive sounding for a compact, and image stabilization operates during HD video recording as well as when shooting stills.

The two cameras also offer 3D Sweep Panorama, which is viewable on a compatible 3D display, and a number of in-camera creative effects. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but the two cameras will be available in March. For more information head to Sony’s website.
