Five new additions to the value range

Canon has used the stage of this year’s CES show in Las Vegas to launch five new compact cameras in its PowerShot A-series.

The headline models in the launch are the new A3300 IS and A3200 IS, a pair of models that take the place of the A3000 IS and A3100 IS at the top of the PowerShot A-series tree. Both models feature solid metal chassis’s and are available in a choice of colours. The A3300 IS offers a large resolution of 16MP, while the A3200 IS offers slightly fewer megapixels, with a count of 14.1MP.

Both models feature HD video capture, while the pair both also sport an optically stabilised 28mm wide-angle, 5x optical zoom. Both models will be on sale next month, with RRPs of £129 and £149 for the A3200 IS and the A3300 IS respectively.

Slightly lower down the A-series tree sit the new A1200 and A2200. The A2200 is the slimmest A-series camera to date and features a 14.MP sensor, HD video capture and 28mm, 4x optical zoom lens. The A1200 boasts a slightly reduced resolution of 12.1MP and is powered by AA batteries, although the rest of the specification reflects its older brother.

The final new PowerShot A-series model is the budget PowerShot A800. The model features a 10MP resolution, 3.3x optical zoom, 2.5in LCD screen and DIGIC III processor. The AA battery powered compact will be on sale next month, with a price-tag of £79.
