PMA 2010: Samsung WB2000 video preview: The Samsung WB2000 is an attractive new 10.2 megapixel compact with both 1080p Full HD and ultra-high speed 1000 frame per second capture options. Those looking to shoot at 1000fps won’t be able to utilise the full 10MP resolution however as files become physically smaller as the frame rate increases. However it’s highly unusual to find a sub £400 compact with the capacity to capture 1080p movie, and the WB-series has seen Samsung go from strength to strength – the WB2000 further cements Samsung’s commitment to the compact digital camera market.

The WB2000 features a 3in 614K-dot AMOLED (commonly known as OLED, or Organic LED) screen, which consumes less power than an LCD equivalent, has a wider viewing angle and higher contrast ratio with brighter, punchier colours. The 5x optical zoom is image stabilised and covers a wideangle 24mm through to 120mm zoom.

As well as jpeg files, the WB2000 can also capture Raw files. During 1080p video capture, the WB2000 has a ‘dual capture mode’ available that  is capable of simultaneously capturing still images at full resolution when shooting in movie mode. Clever stuff. Those looking for the uytmost control have access to a full manual mode, while a Smart Auto mode features for perfect point-and-shoot snaps too.

All in all the WB2000 looks like a great high-end compact that further reflects the impact of Samsung’s increased development in the compact market. We hope to have one to review and put under the WDC microscope soon…
