Following the success of the D2x, Nikon has announced the introduction of a new professional digital SLR camera.
The new Nikon D2xs is equipped with a 12.4MP CMOS image sensor and shares many operational features with its predecessor. Nikon does, however, promise an array of refinements that include an enhanced viewfinder performance, a new LCD with a 170-degree wide viewing angle, significantly increased battery life and a range of firmware enhancements.
The 12.4 megapixel CMOS sensor offers both JPEG or RAW image capture at a rate of up to five frames per second in continuous shooting mode. The D2xs also offers 3D-Colour Matrix Metering II in High-speed Crop mode, and new custom settings have been introduced to the viewfinder to allow clearer viewing.
Professional photographers have the ability to select Adobe RGB in any of three colour modes, making it possible to work with a wider range of colours to complement different working environments. In-camera creative possibilities are extended with the addition of a new Black & White (sRGB) colour mode.
The Nikon DX Format sensor and Nikon F mount design have also been continued to guarantee compatibility with all AF Nikkor lenses and the growing range of DX Nikkor lenses. The D2xs also seeks to maximize the potential of Nikon’s Creative Lighting System, delivering an improved flash performance including i-TTL flash control that adds support for Nikon’s Advanced Wireless Lighting system.
A Wireless Transmitter WT-2/2A provides wireless support for direct image transfer to the D2xs via wireless LAN. The WT-2/2A additionally supports new PTP/IP protocol and when used with Camera Control Pro software, enables wireless camera control from a computer.
