Canon?s newly designed IXUS flagship, the IXUS 800, includes 4x optical zoom and optical Image Stabiliser (OIS).
Featuring a 6MP CCD, the slim body includes a 4x optical Ultra-High Reflective Index Aspherical (UA) lens with a focal length of 35-140mm (35mm equivalent).
Mega OIS is designed to reduce the blur effect caused by camera shake, enabling the camera to shoot in low-light conditions without the use of flash, and shutter speeds 3x slower to be used. Canon has created a new IS processor chip for the camera, which controls the movement of the different lens elements.
Fashioned to what Canon calls new a ?Curvature and Stream? design, the IXUS 800 utilises three colours, developing the style first seen in the IXUS 750. Incorporating a wide viewing angle, the 2.5in LCD includes a Night Display for shooting at night.
Canon has also introduced the IXUS 60 and IXUS 65, 6MP compacts with 3x optical zoom lenses. The IXUS 60 has a 2in LDC and the IXUS 65 a 3.5in LCD ? the largest ever in a Canon compact. The latter also includes a new Touch Control dial.
Canon has extended the sensitivity range to ISO 800 and the new High ISO Auto automatically selects optimum shooting settings, including high ISO and fast shutter speeds.
All three IXUS?s include 16 shooting modes including: Manual, Underwater, Colour Accent and Colour Swap. Other new features include: Widescreen recording mode, 30fps VGA movie mode and My Colours photo effects.
Retailing for £399, the Canon IXUS 800 is available in March, along with the IXUS 60 for £299. The IXUS 65 costs £349 and is out in April.
