The results have been announced for the 2005 Cats Protection photo competition, which attracted a record number of entries. Entrants submitted more than 5000 photos into categories such as: Best Friends, Perfect Portrait, Cats in Action and Cuddly Kittens. Jane Wickins from Cats Protection comments: ‘The standard of entries was extremely high and this is clearly reflected in the quality of the winning photos.’ The overall winner and recipient of a £250 photographic equipment voucher was Roger Nicholls from Hertfordshire for ‘The Mighty Simba,’ a picture of his neighbours’ cat. Roger, who has been a keen photographer for 50 years, said: ‘I saw Simba position himself for a nap in my garden… he was half asleep, which helped me get close enough to take the photo. His other prizes included a framed picture of Simba and £75 for his local Cats Protection branch. Other winners included Alan Hodgin in the Best Friends category for ‘Beautiful Bentley,’ Stephen A McBride in the Cats in Action category for ‘Up on the roof’, James deBournevialle in the Perfect Portrait category for ‘Baby’s got green eyes’, and Cuddly Kittens was won by Mags Dean for ‘Henry’s the cat’. Each wins an £150 photographic equipment voucher, a framed photo of their entry and £50 towards their chosen Cats Protection branch.
