Results have been announced for the 2005 Travel Photographer of the Year Competition.
Now in its third year, the competition is open to photographers of all ages, attracting more than 10,000 entries from around the world.
Lorne Resnick from Canada was awarded the coveted title for a selection of photographs taken in Africa and Cuba. He commented: ?Travel and photography for me are so inexorably linked, and have been for so long, that this recognition means a great deal to me.? Among his prizes are two round-the-world air tickets from the Star Alliance network, an HP Designjet 130 printer, Adobe Photoshop CS and Video software.
Twelve-year-old Edward Mole from Sussex was crowned Young Travel Photographer of the Year 2005, for a series of photos taken at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Edward wins an HP Media Centre PC, digital camera and a photography masterclass in the Lake District with Light and Land. ?A Moment of Freedom? depicting a leaping lamb won the Single Image Category, gaining Gerald Kingma a trip to the Bahamas.
The competition included four portfolio categories. Martin Hartley won ?Human Spirit? for a selection of pictures taken in Zangksar, India. Martin wins a Fujifilm S3 Pro and a Cultural Odyssey to Nepal with the Independent Traveller. Glen Howey was judged the winner of ?Travellers Tales? for a series of photographs documenting the work of landmine charity The Cambodia Trust. He wins a Hassleblad H1 and a trip to Mali. A selection of photographs of a tent taken in different locations by Mani Puthuran won the ?Go Beyond? category; his prize includes a trip to monitor the Arabian Leopard in the mountains of Oman with Biosphere Exhibitions. Meanwhile, Nicola Jenning won ?Natural World? for a series of pictures taken in Namibia, wining a Mamiya 711 medium format camera and an Amazon Heartland expedition.
The wining photographs will be on display at the Travel Photographer of the Year Competition exhibition at the Daily Telegraph Adventure Travel and Sports Show, which runs from January 13th-15th. Find out more at www.tpoty.com
