Canon has announced its first digital compact that is wireless enabled. The Digital IXUS Wireless enables photographs to be transferred remotely from the camera to a compatible computer within an approximate range of 30m. Remote printing to a PictBridge-compatible printer is possible through a Wireless Print Adaptor, which is supplied with the camera and fits into the printerís USB port. Thanks to the Auto Transfer Mode, as soon as pictures have been taken, they can be transferred straight from the camera to a computer, enabling real-time viewing. In addition, the camera can be controlled remotely from a computer using Wireless Remote Capture. Morgens Jensen from Canon comments: ĎWith wireless technology extending beyond the office to personal home networks, Canon expects Wi-Fi support to be the next big trend in the digital photography market.í Incorporating a 5MP CCD, the Digital IXUS Wireless sports a Slit and Frame design, with a silver finish and a blue LED that illuminates during wireless activity. The slim profile is enabled by two Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical elements, which are incorporated in the 3x optical 35-105mm (35mm equivalent) lens. Fast camera performance and accurate picture reproduction is promised by the DIGIC II processor, which is also found on Canonís high-end EOS DSLRs, along with accurate focusing from Canonís 9-point AiAF. Among the 14 shooting modes found on the IXUS Wireless are: Automatic, Manual, Portrait and Stitch Assist. The camera can also capture 30fps VGA movies with sound. Custom Colour, Colour Swap, a 2-inch LCD and slideshow capabilities also feature. The Canon Digital IXUS Wireless will be available in January 2006 for around £399.
