Kingston has announced U3DataTraveler USB drives available in capacities of 512MB and 1GB. Incorporated into the drives is a U3 Launchpad, designed to create a secure workspace, that can be used for adding programs, changing settings, starting programs, managing storage and monitoring programs. Pocket sized, the drive measures 66.9 x 20.4 x 9mm. A range of U3 software applications – including photo imaging and graphic design programs – is available for each drive from Jim Selby from Kingston comments: ‘We are opening up a whole new world of smart drive computing whereby any PC user moving between various locations and Windows 2000 SP4 or XP-based systems has the freedom to work with their own personal workspace - carried on a device small enough to fit on a keychain.’ Compatible with Windows 200 SP4 and XP, the U3 DataTraveler USB smart drives can read data at a rate of 6MB/sec and write data at a rate of 3/Mb/sec. Both drives will be available to buy in October; Kingston has yet to announce prices. Find out more at or by calling 00800 8888 0101.
