Porthfell Wildlife Park Nr East Taphouse, Cornwall have teken in around 20 young hedgehogs needing help over the last two months.
This is 8 week old Claire, found in St.Cleer underweight and with a tummy infection which means she would have been unable to have survived the Winter out in the wild. She will now be put back into the wild next spring.
A one yr old hedgehog was brought to them anonymously in an orange bucket left in their porch! Park Manager Wendy Winstanley looks after them and has just set up a fully equipt hedgehog hospital within the park grounds. They are trying to raise money to provide foof and medication for the hedgehogs. People can help by dropping in at the wildlife park, even tins of dog food would be a welcome contribution. This winter is the first Winter they will be open, Sat, Sun & Mon - 11am - 3pm. This is due to three poor Summers which is down to bad weather. They will also be outside Trage Mills Nr Liskeard in Dec, dates are 2nd-4th, 9th & 10th, 16th-19th and the 23rd. It will be their 21st anniversery of opening next year, to celebrate this they are creating an African exhibition.
