Hi again Blitz Photography,

Just to let you know that I have uploaded the original shot for comparison. I took on board your other advice regarding blurring the background (see Louis upload), but thought I would just upload the original as it is for now.

your welcome carol as you put in the post about getting a DSLR i dont now with the Powershot SX20 if you can set the f stop so you throw the background out of focus were u can with a DSLR with a f stop of 2.8 or its proper name of depth of field the art of editing any thing in photoshop is so that it dont stand out so people now its been edited and thats a art in its self to do lol

Yes it is possible to set the f stop on the SX20, but I'm not sure if it goes as low as 2.8 - I will have to investigate further!
