Could you share a bit more information on what settings / gear you're using?

Auto focus at max zoom might have trouble focussing so change to manual focus - bear in mind the more you zoom in on the moon, the faster it will appear to move across your field of vision

I took a photo of the moon on the same camera a dmz18. I took it in raw format at dusk & darkened it on photoshop

Another way to do it is select manual mode set your aperture to f11 shutter speed to1/250. Zoom in tight to the moon you don't want buildings clouds or phone wires just the moon...take your photo
