Olympus's new Stylus SP-100EE offers a dot-sight to aid with long zoom framing, while the Stylus TG-850 is designed to work in extra-tough conditions

Alongside the big announcement of the day, the OM-D E-M10, Olympus has also unveiled two new additions to the Stylus family: the Stylus SP-100EE and the Stylus TG-850.

The Stylus SP-100EE is the world’s first ‘dot sight’ camera. Working with the camera’s new 1:2.9-6.5 24-1200mm 50x Ultra Zoom lens, the built-in pop-up dot sight can be used to track moving or distant subjects and also functions as a framing assistant.

Elsewhere on the SP-100EE are a 920,000-dot EVF, lens-shift image stabilisation to reduce camera shake, and a single-finger operation control dial. A new focus limit button allows users to set focus only in the near area or only in the distance if desired.

Much like the recent Nikon 1 AW1, the TG-850 is built for seriously tough environments. It’s waterproof to depths of 10m, shockproof to 2.1m, crushproof to 100kg and freezeproof to -10°C. Unlike the AW1, however the TG-850 is a fixed lens camera, sporting a newly developed 21-105mm optical zoom lens which uses new glass material elements for a high refractive index. The LCD screen on the TG-850 (3inch, 460k dots) can be tilted through 180°, and sits ultra-flush with the body to retain the sleek compact feel of the camera.

Both cameras also come equipped with 16MP BSI CMOS sensors, FAST AF and the Truepic VII image processor we’ve seen on various OM-Ds. Both can achieve 7.1fps sequential shooting and feature a selection of Art Filters. While neither has built-in Wi-fi, both work with FlashAir cards to connect to smartphones or PCs and transfer images remotely. Both cameras shoot 60p Full HD movies.

The Olympus Stylus TG-850 has an RRP of £269.99 and comes in a choice of silver, black or white. The Olympus Stylus SP-100EE will cost £349.99 and comes only in black. Both will be available from march.
