Gizmodo competition proves camera phones can take excellent images

A photography competition run by gadget news blog Gizmodo has proved that mobile phones
aren’t purely for making calls anymore. The results from the likes of the
iPhone 4 and Samsung Sway are creative, interesting images that are impressively
close to what a high-spec compact can produce.

A number of the entrants used on board mobile phone
applications to alter the appearance and correct colour issues, as well as
attachable lenses to improve focusing distances. The winning image was taken
with an iPhone 3GS and HDR app, although the organisers said that ‘It was
impossible to pick a winner this week, and after changing my mind several
times-no thanks to every Gizmodo editor’s
varied opinion-I’m perfectly happy for this fine shot to represent the talent
of the group.’
