All the releases, reviews and news from the world of photography

It’s been a week of new compacts and eye-catching photography this week, with both Panasonic and Casio unveiling new models and the sinkhole in Guatemala creating some striking imagery. The What Digital Camera team have also been busy testing the latest kit, with a first look video of the IXUS 300 HS and in depth review of the new Panasonic DMC-G2.

The Casio EX-FH25 and EX-H5 were launched late on in the week, but caught the eye for the long zoom lengths and, in the case of the FH25, 1000fps video mode. This allows for ridiculously slow motion, and should be perfect for analysing golf swing.

Panasonic has also added the FX-70 to thier lineup of compacts, offering a 24mm wide angle lens, 5x optical zoom and 14MP sensor. The 3″ touchscreen and HD movie mode should insure that this is a model for the gadget fans as well.

On a more sombre note the tropical storms hitting Guatemala, which have claimed over 100 lives so far, have produced a sinkhole in the capital. An image from high above shows the depth and devastion, with at least one house being swallowed.

Finally we have a first look at the IXUS 300 HS from Canon, showing off the 240fps video mode as well as highlighting the other features of this brand new compact. We’ve also taken a look at Panasonic’s G2 Micro Four Thirds camera, giving this new addition to the growing hybrid genre an in-depth review.
