camera with built-in USB lead launched

Samsung’s latest compact, the PL90, has taken a leaf out of the flash memory-based camcorder book and included a built-in USB lead. The 12MP compact has no need for a card reader by being able to plug into the computer directly, and even has auto-installing software to process the images.

As the likes of the Flip range and Samsung’s own HMX-U20 offering a USB connection on board it seems like a logical progression for the technology to appear on a digital camera. Outside of it’s connectivity the PL90 also has 4x optical zoom and VGA movie recording, as well as the previously mentioned 12MP sensor.

Both the Smart Auto and Smart Album modes, which cater the camera to particular shooting conditions automatically and organises images by various criterea respectively, are also present alongside AF tracking.

We expect the Samsung PL90 to hit these shores next month, although no UK RRP has been confirmed as yet.
