AF-S NIKKOR 200mm is set to be one of the top professional sports photographer lenses

Nikon have just announced a completely new professional telephoto AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II lens to replace AF-S VR NIKKOR 200mm f/2G IF-ED. The new lens reinforces Nikon’s lineup of fast telephoto lenses for FX-format DSLRs with the latest vibration reduction function dubbed VR II, which Nikon claims reduces the effects of camera shake equivalent to a four-step increase in shutter speed.

The system makes it easier to capture sharp images during hand-held shooting and incorporates two modes: Normal for general handheld and Active to compensate for the vibration caused by fast sporting events.

The lens retains the optical construction of its predecessor and delivers outstanding image quality with excellent sharpness, contrast and definition as well as smooth bokeh making it the perfect choice for photographers shooting stage events and indoor sports.

The pin sharp action shots which can be achieved with the VR II combine well with an additional Super ED lens element, and the Silent Wave Motor (SWM), the results of which can be clearly seen during shooting in dimly lit situations such as indoor sporting events. The incorporation of Nikon’s Nano Crystal Coat also effectively reduces ghosting and flare, making it ideal for night time photography.

With these new lenses, along with the FX-format compatible AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G, AF-S NIKKOR 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR and AF-S NIKKOR 24-120mm f/4G ED VR announced in August 2010, Nikon is able to increase the options available for its users who are striving for more advanced shooting.

With this steady release of new, high-performance lenses, Nikon intends to expand and strengthen its NIKKOR lineup of lenses compatible with the FX format.

The AF-S NIKKOR 200mm f/2G ED VR II will be on sale at the beginning of October, priced at £5300. For more information head to www.nikon.co.uk.
