Default Canon A2300 or Sony W630, first camera?

Hi there, a few pointers would be much appreciated. Really like the look of these cameras for a first point and shoot but both seem very similar. From reviews I've read, the Canon apparently produces better image quality. Please see links below if needs be and many thanks for any thoughts.

    Hi and welcome.

In this price bracket you won't see a lot of difference in the real world images. These cameras are made with the assumption that images will be used on social networking sites, web pages and small prints (up to A4 size).

Sony usually produce better video if your into that. If you get the chance to try them out before you buy (to get a feel for them in the hand etc.), then all the better.

And don't forget. Post processing is an important part of photography and should be used to sharpen and enhance pictures taken with your camera. If you don't have an imaging editor, then use the one in my signature below.

The most useful is the Adjusting levels

and for even more adjustment. The Curves tool
