Squeaky lens

Hi all, I hope you can help me. Last month I bought a Nikon AFS Nikkor 55-200 DX VR. when I use it I can here a lot of what I can only call squeaking and straining going on. Is this normal?

this sounds like the VR working turn it off and see if it goes away

I'm not certain what a VR2 lens is. Mine is certainly a VR lens.

The vr2 lenses to tend to make a noise when activated .I don't think your lens is vr2. Do what wave said switch off the vr if there is no noise then i think the lens might be needing looked at.
