Two new TZ long zoom compacts launched alongside FT3 and FX77

Panasonic has released the new TZ18 and TZ20, FX77 and FT3 compacts today, offering the likes of HD movie capabilities and GPS tracking. The two TZ models both offer a 16x optical zoom with optical image stabilization as well as touch screen, where as the FT3 is a tough camera with 2m drop proofing and 12m water proofing alongside GPS and HD movie functions. The FX77 has a wide 24mm lens, HD video and a 3.5inch touch screen.

The TZ models are bound to make a major impression, as the previous incarnations in the range have managed to successfully combine excellent image quality with a long zoom and impressive functionality. The two new models look to continue this trend with 16x optical zooms, GPS and, on the TZ20, a 3D mode which utilizes the 10fps burst rate to combine images at different focal lengths. The FT3 is aimed at an entirely different audience who are more likely to be scaling peaks or diving underwater rather than carefully composing images. With the ability to withstand a 2 meter drop, being 12 meters underwater and frozen at -10 degrees Celcius the FT3 is perfect for those wanting to take part in extreme sports or simply be less careful when out taking images. Finally Panasonic’s FX77 offers a 24mm, f/2.5 lens which also has 5x magnification. Like the other models announced the lens is a Leica offering, and the 12.1MP sensor should insure the sharpness is preserved. There’s also a full HD movie mode, 10fps burst mode and plenty more features. Read more about the FX77 here.
